The municipality of Vardoussia was formed from the joining of thirteen Communities. Its capital is Krokilio, inhabited by 400 people and the entire municipal department is a land of mountains and scrub . Its villages are excellent resorts, stations of a developing, calm, mountain tourism all around the year. Krokilio is a very beautiful village, with plenty of water and rich vegetation, with traditional buildings an art monuments (church, school, big fountain, etc.) and a Folklore Collection . It is the native village of the hero Giannis Makrigiannis, in honor of which, "Makrigiannia" festival takes place every four years. At Krokilio there is a hostel (rooms) and a refuge .
Artotina (1.300m altitude), is the "capital of Vardoussia Mountains ", the biggest village of Dorida, with its alpine landscapes. It is a place for the relaxation of the visitors, as well as a place of revival of historic memory, because of Ai-Giannis Prodromos historical monastery, where lived as a monk the 1821 hero Athanasios Diakos (his cell remains intact), the bust of the hero of Alamana, the house of captain Andritsos Siafakas, the memories of the struggle leaders of Artotina Skaltsodimos, Pistiolis, Siafakas, Giannis Roukis, Gerantonou, Kaliakouda and others. There is a hostel and a Folklore Museum.
Artotina and Athanasios Diakos quarrel on which is the native village of Fokida's son and hero of 1821 Athanasios Diakos, each village presenting its own substantiation. Pentagioi (950m. altitude) is a village among the fir trees facing Vardoussia, with rich vegetation, plenty of water, traditional buildings (church, mansions, mills, etc.). It became known due to the legend of Maria Pentagiotissa, and it is a holiday resort. The activities of the "Vardoussia School of Free Speech" constitute stimuli for the intellectual rising of the tourists. Other villages of the municipality are: Kerassies (1,340m. altitude) with a hostel/hotel , Ipsilo Chorio (1,200m. altitude), Dichori (1,150m. altitude) with a hostel/hotel , Kriatsi (1,200m. altitude), Alpochori (990m. height), Kokkinos, Tristeno (940m. altitude) with ruins of an ancient settlement and castle, Zorianos (800m. height) which owes its name to general Zorianos of Epirus Despotate, who was also an intellectual of 13th - 14th century, with a remarkable folklore collection , Koupaki (850m. altitude), with an extraordinary view to Mornos river and lake, which has a rich folklore collection and Perivoli (600m. altitude). At pentagioi and Alpochori the National Tourism Organisation (E.O.T..) constructs rooms and a p a r t m e n t s ; the construction will be finished during 2001. The villages of Vardoussia Municipality are distinguished due to their alpine landscapes, their natural beauty, their luxuriant vegetation, the springs with the fresh cold water and the magnificent places of relaxation and pleasure.
