During the years before the Greek war of Independence in
1821 the village was the centre of onset of various groups of armatolos, as
well as a transport junction between Patras and Lamia (via Rio-Naypactos-Lidoriki-Ano Mousounitsa-Ipati). In the square of the village it dominates the
bust of the national hero of Alamana Athanassios Diakos.
