In
Arvanitorahi, a location in the Mountain range of Gionas, the battle of
Dremissa on the 17th of May 1821 took place. This battle played a
decisive role, which judged the outcome of the war of independence in 1821. It
was the first big victory. After the occupation of the heroic “Inn of Gravias”
by Omer Vrioni, it was easy to reach Salona. Omer Vrionis thought that there
was danger in Vlahohoria. More than 3.000 Turk-Albanians with cavalry came in
the region. However with Ioannis Gouras' help the enemy fleed. The battle in
Vlahohoria not only secured the outcome of the war but also wrote history.
