It is the
homeland of the hero of the revolution of 1821 Bishop of Salona Isaias which
was killed by the Turks in the 22th of
April in 1821 in
the location "Halkomata", when
he blessed the arms of the rebels and encouraged Athanassios Diakos for the
battle of Alamana. He was in deed the only Bishop, who was killed in the
field of battle for the freedom of his country. It should be mentioned that
Prophitis Daniil was the region from which at the beginning of the Greek War of
Independence of 1821, Isaias lighting a fire gave the signal for the beginning
of the War of Independence in Peloponnese. The residence of the Bishop is saved today in Desfina.
