Delphi,
with 1500 residents, is one of the most beautiful and imposing landscapes in
Greece. The "navel of the Earth", according to the ancient
tradition.the area was first inhabited in the prehistoric period,
acquiring particularly in the classic
years, enormous historical importance, since it was connected, as most people
know, with the most important events of the Greek history.Apollo, god of
purgation and genuine oracle, dominated in the older worships. He taught "μέτρο",
that is the prudence and the moderation and was the most moral and peaceful
expression of Greek spirit. The famous oracle, in that the oracular words of
the god were given through Pythia, was directed by the priesthood, that is by
priests with deeply mystic education. Moreover, Delphi with the famous
institution of Amfiktionon, promoted friendship, fraternity and peaceful
coexistence of people, as fundamental objective of the Delphic Idea. An
exceptionally impressive proof of the international prestige of the sanctum of
the god of Light was the crowd of offerings made by sovereigns, cities and
rich individuals, which were high in quality and artistic value and
unfortunately very few were rescued.
