The
description of the unique in beauty ravine of Rekas, which starts from the
village Viniani and goes up to the mountain Giona in the middle of Roumeli in
the spot of Laka Karvouni, where there is a shelter of the Hiking Club of
Athens that accommodates 20 people, should not be missing from a gorge
guide.The crossing of the ravine is bidirectional. So one can set off at
Viniani, reach the shelter and after an overnight staying they can return
following the same route the next day. The duration of the crossing is about
6-8 hours for a distance of 13
km> in a marvelous landscape. The path initially follows
the bed of the gorge for about the 1/3 of the way. At Mili, where today are the
ruins of the old watermills of the village and at Platilitho there are small
springs. Then the crossing follows an old street which was initially made for
the logging at both sides of the ravine.At the highest point of Rekas there is
a small cutting that is shape between
two other small ravines and it is an hour away the shelter. Hikers can see
cedar trees and firs throughout the crossing and smell the sweet-smelling
plants such as tilia, sempervirens.
